Chhath Puja Vidhi
Chhath Puja is one of the most rigorous and holy festivals dedicated to Lord Surya (Sun God) and Chhathi Maiya. It spans four days.
1. Day 1: Nahay-Khay
On this day, devotees take a holy bath and consume a simple sattvic meal (usually pumpkin and rice). Great emphasis is placed on cleanliness.
2. Day 2: Kharna
Devotees fast throughout the day and in the evening, they offer jaggery kheer and roti as Prasad. After this, a 36-hour waterless fast begins.
3. Day 3: Sandhya Arghya (Evening Offering)
Offerings are made to the setting Sun.
- Bamboo baskets (Soop) are decorated with fruits, Thekua, and other Prasad.
- In the evening, devotees stand waist-deep in a river or pond to offer Arghya to the Sun God.
Surya Mantra
4. Day 4: Usha Arghya (Morning Offering)
Offerings are made to the rising Sun.
- Devotees reach the riverbank before sunrise and wait in the water.
- After offering Arghya to the rising Sun, Prasad is distributed, and the fast is broken (Parana).
Surya Arghya Mantra
O Lord Surya, with thousands of rays, the embodiment of brilliance and Lord of the Universe! Have mercy on me, your devotee, and accept my offering.
